Using Your MyChart Records With ChatGPT or Claude

You have three routes: connect your records through the connection a company offers, upload files you downloaded yourself, or keep your records out of AI assistants and use a tool built for records. This page covers what each assistant says it offers, what leaves your hands when you use it, and what Phi Longevity PRISM does instead today. It is general information from the companies' own pages and HHS, not advice about your situation.

What each company says it offers

  • ChatGPT. OpenAI says Health in ChatGPT is a separate space where you can connect medical records and apps and upload files, that medical record integrations are available in the United States only, and that records connect through a partner, b.well. An update dated July 23, 2026 says Health is launching to users 18 and older on web and iOS in the United States.
  • Claude. Anthropic says Claude Pro and Max subscribers can choose to give Claude access to their lab results and health records, that you choose what you share and must explicitly opt in, and that you can disconnect or edit permissions at any time.

Both companies change these features often. Read the current page on the company's own site before you connect anything.

What leaves your hands

  1. Your records leave your health system. HHS says a provider generally cannot refuse to send your records to an app you chose, if they are readily producible in the form the app uses. That is your right. It also means the copy no longer lives only in the health system's own systems.
  2. A connection partner may handle them. OpenAI names b.well as its partner for medical records. Anthropic's announcement names HealthEx and Function connectors. Read each partner's privacy terms as well as the assistant's.
  3. HIPAA may not follow the copy. HHS says the HIPAA Rules do not restrict how an app uses information you directed to it, and do not apply to an entity that is not a covered entity or business associate. Anthropic's help center says its HIPAA-ready offering is for Enterprise plans only, and that team and individual plans cannot enable it. Ask any service you use whether it is covered, and look for the answer in writing.
  4. Training and deletion. OpenAI and Anthropic each say, on the pages cited here, that health conversations or health data are not used to train their models. Confirm the current wording and find out how to delete what you shared.

A short checklist before you connect or upload

  • Read the privacy terms for the assistant and for the connection partner.
  • Share only what you need for the question you have. Anthropic says you can choose exactly what you share.
  • Find the setting that disconnects access, and the one that deletes stored health memories or files.
  • Use a login protected by a second step, if the service offers one. OpenAI says you can turn on multi-factor authentication.
  • Treat answers as a way to prepare questions. OpenAI says Health is not intended for diagnosis or treatment.

What Phi Longevity PRISM does instead today

You connect MyChart at participating Epic health systems, or upload your lab reports, in your own account at philongevity.com. It builds a one-page Care Team Brief with each result, its date, how it has changed over time and the guideline behind each flag, using the range printed on your own lab report. You print it or save it as a PDF. An AI assistant cannot read your real records through us today: our public connector for assistants takes made-up or de-identified values only (see our page for agents).

What to do with the files

Download your results first (how to download lab results from MyChart), then decide where they go. If you choose Phi Longevity PRISM, this is how we handle your records:

Phi Longevity is not a healthcare provider or a "covered entity" under HIPAA for your personal account. We store your records in HIPAA-eligible systems under a signed business associate agreement with Google Cloud, and we protect them to that standard. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

What Phi Longevity PRISM does not do

It does not diagnose, and it does not replace your doctor. It reads lab results today; medicines, diagnoses and allergies are not imported yet. It does not read your records through ChatGPT or Claude, and it does not tell you whether to use those assistants.

Frequently asked questions

Does ChatGPT Health use my medical records to train its models?

OpenAI says conversations in Health are not used to train its foundation models. OpenAI also says medical record connections go through a partner called b.well and that you can remove access to medical records at any time in the Apps section of Settings. These are OpenAI's statements as of its January 2026 announcement and a July 23, 2026 update, so check the current ChatGPT Health page before you connect anything.

Does Claude use my health records to train its models?

Anthropic's January 2026 announcement says Claude Pro and Max subscribers can choose to give Claude access to their lab results and health records, that you must explicitly opt in and can disconnect or edit permissions at any time, and that Anthropic does not use users' health data to train models. Check Anthropic's current help pages before you connect anything.

Is sharing my records with an AI assistant covered by HIPAA?

We cannot say for any given service, so read its own terms. HHS says the HIPAA Rules do not apply to entities that are not covered entities or business associates, and that they do not restrict how an app uses information you directed to it. Anthropic's help center says its HIPAA-ready offering, which includes a business associate agreement, is available for Enterprise plans only, and that team and individual plans cannot enable it.

Can ChatGPT or Claude replace my doctor's read of my labs?

No. OpenAI says Health is not intended for diagnosis or treatment and is designed to support, not replace, medical care. MedlinePlus says that even if you can review results in your electronic health record, it is still important to talk with your provider to find out what your results mean for you.
